NIFTY:

The NIFTY opened at 18093.35 with a gap down of just 25 points. The index started drifting downwards from its opening tick and recorded its intraday high at 18100.60 in its initial trades. Prices have seen a sharp decline and went below 17900. The index started finding support and began a process of consolidation that lasted till the end. The index recorded its intraday low at 17846.15 and finally closed at 17891.95 with a loss of 226.35 points or 1.25% down. All the sectoral indices have ended with a loss. BANK and FINANCIAL led the bears today by closing over 2% loss followed by OIL GAS which ended nearly 2% down. AUTO and FMCG ended on a flat note. The short-term trend remained sideways as the index is still trading inside the support around 17800 and resistance around 18250. However, today’s decline changes the bias to bearish. We have been expecting a sharp move and that move came on the downside. Since the intraday range was wide enough today, it is possible that the next day may be choppy and narrow. The volatility has increased significantly as the INDIA VIX has risen over 7% and is now moving around level 15. If it continues to rise then it may favor the bears. As of now, avoid trading the index.

BANK NIFTY:

The BANK NIFTY opened at 42703.60 without much of a gap. The index started drifting downwards after recording its intraday high at 42733.05 in its initial trades. The decline was sharp and prices went below 42000 in the afternoon and started a consolidation process. The index remained sideways till the end, recorded its intraday low at 41540.30, and finally closed at 41687.60 with a loss of 1028 points. PSU and PVT BANK performed almost the same today, saw a sharp intraday decline, and closed with a loss of 3.58% & 2.30% respectively. Within the index in terms of points, HDFC BANK contributed the highest on the downside followed by SBIN. It was again a trend day today on the downside where prices have recorded its intraday high near the opening tick and intraday low near its closing tick. In the first half, prices have on the downside, it was again a trend day today been a steep decline while consolidated in the second half. The short-term trend is still sideways but a sharp decline today changes the bias in the favour of bears. We have been tracking a strong support level of around 41700. The index today breached that level and ended around 41700 support. Another close below 41700 may confirm this breakdown which is giving us a pattern target below 40000. We may get a trading opportunity next week. As of now, avoid trading the index.
