The NIFTY opened at 17796.80 with a gap down of 81points. The index continued its bearish momentum and started drifting downwards after recording its intraday high at 17820.05. The index kept on moving downwards and broke the 17700 level decisively and then started moving sideways and narrowly. The consolidation eventually broke on the downside. Prices have seen another leg of decline which lasted till the end, prices recorded its intraday low at 17497.25 and finally closed at 17530.85 with a loss of 346.55 points or 1.94% down. All the sectoral indices have moved down today and closed with a loss. MEDIA, IT, and REALTY led the bears today and ended with a loss of over 3% followed by OIL GAS, AUTO, and METAL which ended over 2% lower. The short-term trend is sideways now as the index has erased all the gains that came in the last week by moving down for the past two trading days. The index broke down its support level of 17700 and now trading near the next support at 17500. Below this, the next support is visible around 17200. Volatility is rising and we have been expecting it also. The INDIA VIX, a benchmark index for volatility, moved up today and now moving around 20 suggesting volatility is moderately high. As of now, we should avoid trading the index for the time being or prefer taking trades on an intraday basis only.

The BANK NIFTY opened at 40977.20 with a big gap down of 231 points. The index initially moved up, filled the gap, and then turned down after recording its intraday high at 41162.50. Prices have seen a minor decline and then a modest rally and again turned down. This time the index fell sharply and recorded its intraday low at 40502.05. Prices have finally closed at 40825.15 with a loss of 383 points. PSU BANKS have underperformed today saw a sharp intraday decline and closed lower by 2.35%. PVT BANKS have also moved down today and closed lower by 0.75%. Within the index, in terms of points, INDUSIND BANK contributed the highest on the upside while HDFC BANK contributed the lowest. We have a support of around 40000 and resistance of around 42000 in the BANK Index. These levels remained untouched. The short-term trend is sideways now. We should now avoid trading the index as the volatility is rising. We should now wait for prices to break either support or resistance level.
