India’s Gold Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) market has crossed a major threshold, with total assets under management (AUM) exceeding ₹1 lakh crore in October 2025. The milestone highlights a sharp rise in investor appetite for gold-backed investment instruments amid shifting market conditions and increasing portfolio diversification trends.
Strong Growth Driven by Inflows and Participation
The Gold ETF segment has witnessed accelerated growth, with its AUM doubling within just one year—from October 2024 to October 2025. Investors poured in more than ₹27,500 crore between January and October 2025 alone, surpassing cumulative inflows recorded over the five-year period from 2020 to 2024.
This growth momentum is further reflected in retail participation trends. Gold ETF folios surged from 7.83 lakh in October 2020 to more than 95 lakh by October 2025, indicating widespread adoption across investor categories.
Currently, Indian Gold ETFs collectively hold over 83 tonnes of physical gold, with nearly one-third of the total added in 2025—marking the strongest accumulation phase yet.
Silver ETFs Also on the Rise
Alongside gold, silver-backed ETFs continue to gain traction. Introduced in 2022, the segment has grown steadily with over 25 lakh folios and an AUM crossing ₹40,000 crore, signalling increased investor interest in precious metals as an asset class.
Summary
Gold ETF holdings in India crossed ₹1 lakh crore in October 2025, supported by record inflows, rising retail participation, and growing demand for diversification. Silver ETFs are also expanding rapidly, reflecting broader interest in precious metal-based financial products.
