The Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) to strengthen collaboration in education, research, and professional training. The agreement was formalised on October 28, 2025, in New Delhi.

The partnership aims to leverage the institutions’ complementary expertise in social housing, municipal finance, and sustainable urban development, supporting capacity building and innovation in India’s urban ecosystem.

Focus Areas and Training Initiatives

Under the MoU, HUDCO and IIM Calcutta will jointly design and implement certificate courses, applied research projects, consultancy assignments, and training programmes for professionals in both the public and private sectors.

The initiatives will include specialised modules in urban management, municipal finance, governance, infrastructure development, and contract management. HUDCO’s Human Settlement Management Institute (HSMI) will work closely with IIMC to coordinate programme delivery.

Additionally, the collaboration envisions joint conferences, workshops, and expert exchanges to promote knowledge sharing and best practices in urban policy, planning, and project execution.

Terms and Duration of Agreement

The non-binding MoU will remain valid for three years, subject to annual review, and may be extended upon mutual consent. Both organisations retain the option to enter into separate operational agreements for specific projects or to terminate the partnership with six months’ written notice.

Strategic Significance

The collaboration underscores HUDCO’s continued focus on fostering academic partnerships and capacity-building initiatives to support India’s urban transformation agenda, while enabling IIM Calcutta to extend its expertise into applied urban research and policy development.
