Maruti Suzuki India Limited has begun commercial production at the second plant of its Kharkhoda facility in Haryana, effective 18 May 2026. The new unit adds another 2.5 lakh vehicles of annual capacity, taking the total Kharkhoda output potential to 5 lakh units per year.

The development strengthens Maruti Suzuki’s long-term manufacturing expansion plan as the automaker scales up production to meet rising domestic and export demand.

Kharkhoda Facility Now a Key Production Hub

The Kharkhoda complex now comprises two operational plants:

  • Plant 1: Operational since Feb 2025
  • Plant 2: Started commercial production in May 2026
  • Combined capacity: 5 lakh units annually

The company has indicated that the site will eventually be expanded further to reach 10 lakh units per year, making it one of its largest manufacturing locations.

Total Manufacturing Capacity Rises to 26.5 Lakh Units

With the addition of the second Kharkhoda plant, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has increased its overall annual production capacity across India to 26.5 lakh units.

Breakup of capacity:

  • Gurugram: 5 lakh units
  • Manesar: 9 lakh units
  • Hansalpur (Gujarat): 7.5 lakh units
  • Kharkhoda: 5 lakh units

This expansion aligns with the company’s broader FY27 capacity addition roadmap.

Models Being Manufactured

At the Kharkhoda facility, the company currently produces:

  • Maruti Suzuki Brezza (compact SUV)
  • Victoris (mid-size SUV)

The focus on SUV production reflects ongoing strong demand in this segment in the Indian automobile market.

Strategic Expansion for FY27 and Beyond

Maruti Suzuki India Limited had earlier outlined plans to add around 5 lakh units of new capacity in FY27, with Kharkhoda forming a major part of that expansion.

Once fully developed, the site is expected to become a major export and domestic supply hub, supporting Suzuki’s global production network.

Market Reaction

The stock remained under pressure, with Maruti Suzuki trading lower in the session amid broader market weakness, even as investors tracked long-term capacity expansion as a structural growth driver.

Conclusion

The commissioning of the second Kharkhoda plant marks a key milestone in Maruti Suzuki’s manufacturing expansion strategy. With capacity now rising to 26.5 lakh units and further expansion planned, Maruti Suzuki India Limited continues to strengthen its position as India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer.
