Foxconn Interconnect Technology (FIT), the Hyderabad-based subsidiary of Taiwan’s Foxconn, is set to double production of Apple AirPods at its Telangana plant over the next six to eight months. Located at Kongara Kalan, around 15 km from Hyderabad airport, the facility began commercial production in April 2025 and currently manufactures over 1 lakh units per month, according to The Economic Times.
Production Expansion and Investment
To achieve the new target of 2 lakh units per month, FIT plans to expand and upgrade its existing manufacturing lines, shifting advanced machinery from its Vietnam operations and adding one or two new production lines at the site.
The total investment in the Hyderabad unit is projected to reach ₹4,800 crore, with more than ₹3,000 crore already deployed. The enhanced facility will also support manufacturing of upcoming AirPods models, including AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3.
Employment Boost and Local Manufacturing Drive
Currently employing around 2,000 workers, the Hyderabad plant expects to increase its workforce to 5,000 as production scales up. The factory is part of Foxconn’s $550 million project under Chang Yi Interconnect Technology (India) Pvt. Ltd., launched in May 2023, which aims to create up to 24,000 jobs and boost local production of Apple accessories such as AirPods, connectors, and cables.
Earlier Disruptions and Supply Chain Stabilisation
Production had slowed earlier this year due to a shortage of dysprosium, a rare earth element essential for key components. The disruption stemmed from China’s export restrictions on critical minerals, which were partially eased in August 2025, allowing operations to normalise.
Summary
The scale-up marks a major milestone in India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem, reinforcing Telangana’s growing role as a strategic hub for Apple suppliers. With increased output, fresh investments, and job creation, Foxconn’s Hyderabad unit is set to play a pivotal role in advancing India’s “Make in India” initiative and deepening Apple’s manufacturing footprint in the country.
