Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), the Navratna defence PSU, has bagged a ₹633 crore order from Cochin Shipyard, reinforcing its leadership in defence electronics and system integration. The contract includes the supply of key components for sensors, weapon systems, fire control mechanisms, and communication equipment, supporting India’s growing naval capabilities.

Expanding Defence Portfolio

This latest order adds to BEL’s impressive series of recent contract wins. The company secured a ₹592 crore order just last week and another ₹712 crore order in mid-September, reflecting sustained demand for its advanced defence and electronic systems.

BEL’s expanding order book spans a diverse range of technologies, including tank subsystems, ship data networks, combat management systems, train collision avoidance systems (Kavach), laser dazzlers, jammers, IT infrastructure, cybersecurity tools, spares, upgrades, and blockchain-based solutions.

Strong Financial Momentum

BEL’s financial performance continues to underline its operational strength. In Q1 FY26, the company posted a 5.2% year-on-year rise in revenue to ₹4,417 crore, slightly below market estimates. However, EBITDA surged 32.2% to ₹1,240.4 crore, driving the EBITDA margin up to 28.1%, compared with 22.3% a year earlier. The improvement was driven by efficient project execution and a favourable product mix.

Summary

Bharat Electronics’ ₹633 crore contract from Cochin Shipyard marks another milestone in its defence manufacturing journey. With multiple large-scale orders and a robust financial performance, BEL is well-positioned to capitalise on India’s growing defence modernisation and self-reliance initiatives.
