Online Updates Limited to Address Changes
At present, the online system supports only address modifications. Other demographic updates — including name, date of birth, gender, or biometric information such as fingerprints, iris scans, and facial data — must still be carried out in person at Aadhaar Seva Kendras.
How to Update Aadhaar Address Online
- Visit the official UIDAI website.
- Choose the “Document Update” option.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and complete OTP verification using the registered mobile number.
- Select “Address Update” and proceed by either uploading a supporting document or using the Head of Family (HoF) method.
- Fill in the updated address details and upload valid proof of address.
- Submit the request and save the acknowledgment receipt containing the 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) for tracking purposes.
UIDAI generally processes and verifies address updates within up to 30 days.
Revised Fees for Other Updates
While the address update service remains free online, UIDAI has revised its charges for demographic and biometric changes made at Aadhaar centers. The fee now ranges between ₹75 and ₹125, depending on the type of update.
