India’s electric two-wheeler market witnessed a notable shift in competitive dynamics in March 2026, with TVS Motor Company emerging as the clear market leader. Meanwhile, Ola Electric, which previously held a dominant position, dropped to fifth place amid intensified competition.
TVS Motor Secures Top Position
TVS Motor recorded sales of 38,007 electric two-wheelers during the month, capturing a 27.3% market share. The strong performance was largely driven by sustained demand for its iQube electric scooter, along with deeper penetration into non-metro markets and improved financing accessibility.
Overall, electric two-wheeler registrations reached 1,39,238 units in March, reflecting robust demand across the segment.
Competitive Landscape Intensifies
Bajaj Auto ranked second with 33,447 units, translating to a 24% market share. Ather Energy secured the third position with sales of 26,151 units, accounting for 18.8% of the market.
Hero MotoCorp’s electric mobility brand, Vida, followed in fourth place with 15,683 units and an 11.3% share. Ola Electric, once a market leader, reported 6,381 units, capturing just 4.6% of the market and highlighting a significant shift in competitive positioning.
Discounts and Incentives Drive Sales Momentum
Sales in March were significantly influenced by promotional offers and discounts across brands. Manufacturers and dealers introduced attractive pricing strategies to capitalise on demand ahead of the expiry of government incentives.
Ola Electric rolled out its “End ICE Age” campaign, offering aggressive pricing on select models. Similarly, Ather Energy and other players launched promotional schemes to boost volumes and clear inventory.
Subsidy Deadline Spurs Demand
A key driver of the surge in sales was the approaching deadline for the Centre’s PM E-DRIVE subsidy on March 31, 2026. Anticipating a rise in prices post-subsidy, customers accelerated purchase decisions to lock in current benefits.
This led to a spike in registrations during the month, making March one of the strongest periods for electric two-wheeler sales in recent times.
Summary
TVS Motor led India’s electric two-wheeler market in March 2026 with a 27.3% share, followed by Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy, while Ola Electric slipped to fifth position. Sales were boosted by discounts and a surge in demand ahead of the PM E-DRIVE subsidy deadline, reflecting heightened competition and evolving market dynamics in the EV segment.
