Tata Power has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) for the acquisition of Ryapte Power Transmission Limited, a project-specific Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), according to the company’s exchange filing dated June 19, 2026.
The transmission project will be developed under the Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model and carries annual transmission charges of ₹521.07 crore.
Karnataka Transmission Project
The project involves developing approximately 250 kilometres of transmission infrastructure across Karnataka, including:
400 kV double-circuit transmission lines
220 kV double-circuit transmission lines
220 kV underground cable sections
The network will connect:
Ryapte
Doddathaggalli
Ekarajapura
Hosakote
Sarjapura
The project forms part of Karnataka’s planned power transmission expansion to strengthen grid connectivity.
Two Greenfield Substations
The project also includes the construction of two new substations:
Ryapte (Tumkur District)
400/220 kV Air-Insulated Substation (AIS)
5 × 500 MVA transformers
400 kV bus reactors
Doddathaggalli (Near Hosakote)
400/220 kV Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS)
3 × 500 MVA transformers
400 kV bus reactors
These substations are designed to improve transmission capacity and support growing electricity demand in the region.
35-Year Transmission Agreement

Execution model: BOOT (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer)
Scheduled Commercial Operation Date (SCOD): 30 months from SPV transfer
Transmission Service Agreement tenure: 35 years
