Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Powergrid) has approved two major infrastructure projects worth ₹705.51 crore aimed at strengthening national grid operations and boosting disaster preparedness. The approvals were made by the company’s Committee of Directors on Investment in Projects during its September 26, 2025 meeting.

- VOIP Communication System
- Investment: ₹209.68 crore
- Scope: Establishment of a Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) communication system across all five regional grids—Northern, North Eastern, Southern, Western, and Eastern
- Commissioning Timeline: By August 23, 2026
- Purpose: Enhance coordination and efficiency in managing India’s power transmission network
- Emergency Restoration System (ERS)
- Investment: ₹495.83 crore
- Scope: Procurement of 20 ERS sets (300 towers) under the Make in India initiative
- Commissioning Timeline: By April 19, 2027
- Purpose: Enable rapid restoration of transmission lines during natural disasters or infrastructure failures, strengthening grid resilience
