the NIFTY opened at 17428.60 with a gap down of just 37 points. The index continued its bearish momentum and started drifting downward after the opening tick. However, the index tried to bounce up but failed to sustain the rally and moved down again after recording its intraday high at 17451.60. Prices have moved towards 17300 and recorded its intraday low at 17299. The index has seen a smart recovery in the later part of the day, reaching almost 17400, and finally closed at 17392.70 near its opening tick with a loss of 73.10 points or 0.42% down. REALTY outperformed today by ending with a gain of over 2% followed by BANK which ended with a gain of 1%. MEDIA, METAL, IT, and AUTO underperformed today and closed lower. The short-term trend is down as the prices are making new lows. Today also the index went around 17300 and then saw a smart recovery. The index remained below 17500 and confirmed a breakdown. However, today prices have made a long lower shadow which suggests bulls may be coming back. We may see either a relief rally or a brief consolidation here. Support is now visible around 17300.

The BANK NIFTY opened at 39820.40 with a gap down of 84 points. The index initially moved lower but soon found support and bounced up after recording its intraday low at 39745.40. Prices have finally closed at 40355.85 near their day’s highs with a gain of 451 points. PVT and PSU BANK both indices have performed almost the same saw an intraday rally and closed higher by 0.86% &0.73% respectively. Within the index, in terms of points, ICICI BANK contributed the highest on the upside while AU BANK contributed the lowest. The trend is down. However, after a recent fall, we are expecting some kind of consolidation. We will get a shorting opportunity on any rally or if the index closes below 39500. Buying may emerge if prices hold the support.
