India’s mutual fund industry continued its steady expansion in February 2026, adding 7.64 lakh new unique investors and taking the overall investor base beyond 6.09 crore. The sustained growth reflects increasing retail participation and deeper market penetration across geographies.
Growth in Folios and Assets Under Management
The industry recorded a strong addition of 42.58 lakh new folios during the month, pushing the total folio count to 27.06 crore.
Average Assets Under Management (AUM) stood at ₹83.43 lakh crore in February 2026, registering a 2% month-on-month increase from ₹82.01 lakh crore in January. On a year-on-year basis, AUM witnessed a robust growth of 23% compared to ₹67.58 lakh crore in February 2025, highlighting sustained inflows and market appreciation.
Inflows and Fund Launch Activity
Total inflows for February were recorded at ₹94,530 crore. While this represents a moderation from January’s ₹1.56 lakh crore, it remains significantly higher than ₹40,064 crore reported in February last year.
During the month, the industry launched 22 new schemes, including 21 open-ended funds and one close-ended offering, collectively mobilising ₹5,357 crore.
Investor Participation and Ticket Size Trends
Investor participation continued to show a balanced mix across regions. The average AUM per folio stood at ₹1.02 lakh in B-30 towns and ₹2.71 lakh in T-30 cities. The combined average ticket size across both categories was ₹1.87 lakh, while the overall industry average stood at ₹3.03 lakh.
The total number of mutual fund schemes increased to 1,937 in February, up from 1,919 in January, indicating continued product expansion.
SIP Trends and Account Activity
Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) remained a key contributor to retail inflows. Total SIP AUM rose to ₹16.64 lakh crore from ₹16.36 lakh crore in the previous month.
Monthly SIP contributions stood at ₹29,845 crore, slightly lower than ₹31,002 crore recorded in January. During the month, 65.72 lakh new SIP accounts were registered, while 49.70 lakh accounts were discontinued, taking the total number of active SIP accounts to 1,045 crore.
Distribution Network Expansion
The industry also saw growth in its distribution ecosystem, with 5,606 new ARN registrations in February. This included 2,250 individual ARNs and 3,179 registrations for corporate employees, reflecting expanding intermediary participation.
Summary
The mutual fund industry added 7.64 lakh new investors in February 2026, taking the total investor base to over 6.09 crore. Strong folio growth, rising AUM, and sustained inflows indicate continued momentum, although monthly inflows moderated compared to January. SIP contributions remained resilient, and expansion in distributor registrations further supports long-term growth of the industry.
