Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (CSL) has secured a contract from Denmark-based Svitzer to construct four fully electric ‘TRAnsverse 2600E’ tugs. The agreement was finalised on December 5, 2025, following a Letter of Intent issued on October 31, 2025. Each vessel will be 26 metres long with a 70-ton bollard pull.

Order Classification and Value

CSL categorised the project under its ‘Significant’ order range, which covers contracts valued between ₹250 crore and ₹500 crore. It is listed as the second tier in the company’s order classification framework.

Construction and Delivery

  • The tugs will be built at CSL’s Kochi shipyard according to Svitzer’s technical specifications.
  • Deliveries are expected to begin from late 2027.
  • The contract provides Svitzer the option to place up to four additional orders in the future.

Strategic Alignment

CSL noted that the project supports national maritime initiatives, including Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, promoting domestic shipbuilding and manufacturing under the Make in India framework.

The company clarified that no promoter or promoter-group entity holds any interest in the organisation awarding the contract, and the agreement does not constitute a related-party transaction under current regulations.
