The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on November 12, 2025, announced the nationwide rollout of the Passport Seva Programme (PSP V2.0), Global Passport Seva Programme (GPSP V2.0), and the new e-Passport initiative, aimed at enhancing efficiency, security, and convenience in passport services for Indian citizens in India and abroad.

Digital Upgrades Under PSP V2.0 and GPSP V2.0

The PSP V2.0, launched across 37 Passport Offices, 93 Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs), and 450 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) on May 26, 2025, streamlines the passport application and issuance process through greater digital integration.
The GPSP V2.0, rolled out on October 28, 2025, extends similar upgrades to Indian Embassies and Consulates worldwide.

The upgraded system introduces AI-powered chat and voice bots for real-time user assistance, along with a redesigned mobile app and website that feature auto-filled forms, simplified document uploads, and faster UPI and QR code-based payments.

e-Passports Introduced for Enhanced Security

The new e-Passports represent a major step towards secure and contactless travel. Each passport contains an embedded RFID chip and antenna that store personal information in compliance with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards.
The chip enables quick identity verification and reduces the risk of forgery or data tampering. All new passports issued after the rollout will be e-Passports, while existing passports will remain valid until expiry.

Citizen-Centric and Globally Aligned

The upgraded systems provide real-time application tracking, enhanced document validation, and a consistent user experience across domestic and global service centers. The initiatives are designed to simplify the passport process, strengthen security, and ensure smoother service delivery for Indian citizens worldwide.
