KP Group has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of the Republic of Botswana to collaborate on the development of large-scale renewable energy generation, energy storage, and transmission infrastructure. The agreement supports Botswana’s goal of moving towards a net-zero economy by 2030 and represents a milestone in KP Group’s international expansion strategy.
Scope of the Partnership
The MoU was executed between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and KP Group, encompassing its entities KPI Green Energy, KP Energy, and KP Green Engineering. The framework outlines cooperation in the planning, development, and implementation of renewable energy projects, along with related transmission infrastructure, to enhance energy security and establish Botswana as a regional supplier of clean power.
The collaboration proposes capital investments of approximately $4 billion, or around ₹36,000 crore, across multiple renewable energy and infrastructure initiatives. These projects are expected to increase Botswana’s renewable energy capacity to nearly 5 GW. The scope also includes the development and upgradation of high-voltage transmission networks within Botswana, as well as strengthening cross-border interconnections to enable regional electricity trade.
Focus on Skills and Capacity Building
Under the agreement, KP Group will provide 30 scholarships each year to citizens of Botswana in areas such as renewable energy, engineering, sustainability, and related fields. The programme is intended to support skill development, knowledge transfer, and the creation of a local talent base to sustain Botswana’s long-term clean energy objectives.
