The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited has initiated a strategic fleet realignment by entering into an agreement to sell one of its medium-range tankers. The move is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency and maintain a well-balanced shipping portfolio.

Agreement Signed for Tanker Sale

The company has finalised a contract to sell its 2003-built medium-range tanker Jag Pankhi, which has a carrying capacity of approximately 46,273 deadweight tonnes (dwt). The vessel is being divested to an unrelated third party, ensuring the transaction is conducted on an arm’s-length basis.

Delivery of the tanker is expected to take place in the first quarter of FY27, indicating near-term completion of the deal.

Fleet Profile Remains Diversified

Post-transaction, Great Eastern Shipping will continue to operate a diversified fleet. At present, the company owns 40 vessels, comprising both tankers and dry bulk carriers, with an aggregate capacity of around 3.20 million dwt.

Its fleet portfolio includes crude oil tankers, product carriers, LPG vessels, and multiple classes of dry bulk ships, reflecting a broad presence across key segments of the global shipping market.

Continued Focus on Fleet Optimisation

Alongside this divestment, the company is actively pursuing additional fleet adjustments. It has entered into agreements to acquire a second-hand Kamsarmax dry bulk carrier and another medium-range tanker. Furthermore, plans are underway to sell an additional vessel, Jag Prakash.

These developments underline the company’s strategy of continuously refining its fleet composition to improve efficiency, optimise asset utilisation, and align with changing market dynamics.

Summary:

Great Eastern Shipping has agreed to sell its medium-range tanker Jag Pankhi as part of its fleet optimisation strategy. While maintaining a diversified fleet of 40 vessels, the company is simultaneously acquiring new assets and planning further divestments, reflecting a balanced approach to portfolio management and operational efficiency.
