Overview
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) and the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide doorstep Digital Life Certificate (DLC) services for pensioners under the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995.
The MoU was signed during EPFO’s 73rd Foundation Day by R. Viswesvaran, MD & CEO of IPPB, and Ramesh Krishnamurthi, Central Provident Fund Commissioner, EPFO.
Doorstep Verification for Pensioners
The initiative enables EPFO pensioners to submit their life certificates from home instead of visiting banks or EPFO offices.
The service will operate through India Post’s extensive network of over 1.65 lakh post offices and 3 lakh postal service providers, including Postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks.
Each postal worker will be equipped with digital devices supporting face authentication and fingerprint biometric verification to carry out the process efficiently.
No Cost for Pensioners
EPFO will bear the full cost of issuing Digital Life Certificates, making the service completely free for pensioners.
The initiative particularly benefits elderly pensioners and those residing in rural and semi-urban areas, where access to EPFO or bank branches can be challenging.
How the Process Works
Pensioners can request the service by contacting their Postman or Gramin Dak Sevak or by visiting the nearest post office.
They need to provide their Aadhaar number and pension details, followed by authentication through either face or fingerprint verification.
After successful verification, a confirmation SMS will be sent to the pensioner, and the certificate will be available online at jeevanpramaan.gov.in the next day.
IPPB first introduced doorstep DLC services in 2020, leveraging Aadhaar-enabled biometric authentication to simplify and speed up the process while reducing paperwork.
Summary
EPFO and India Post Payments Bank have partnered to offer doorstep Digital Life Certificate services for pensioners under the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995.
The service, provided free of cost through India Post’s vast postal network, enables home-based verification using digital biometric tools, easing access for millions of pensioners—especially in rural and remote regions.
