
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the disbursement of a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days’ wages for railway employees for the financial year 2024-25. The move will benefit 10.91 lakh non-gazetted employees across Indian Railways.

The total financial outlay for the bonus is ₹1,866 crore, with each eligible employee set to receive a maximum payment of ₹17,951.
Coverage
The PLB applies to a wide range of staff, including track maintainers, loco pilots, train managers (guards), station masters, supervisors, technicians, technician helpers, pointsmen, ministerial staff, and other Group ‘C’ employees.
Timing and Significance
The bonus is typically disbursed ahead of major festivals like Durga Puja and Dussehra. The government described it as an incentive aimed at motivating employees and improving operational performance.

Indian Railways reported a strong performance in FY 2024-25, with a record freight loading of 1,614.90 million tonnes and nearly 730 crore passengers transported during the year, underscoring the significance of rewarding employees for their contribution.
