Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Oil India Limited (OIL), both Maharatna PSUs, have signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) to establish a City Gas Distribution (CGD) network in Arunachal Pradesh. The agreement was formalized at BPCL’s corporate office in the presence of Shri Sanjay Khanna, Director (Refineries) and Acting CMD of BPCL, along with Dr. Ranjit Rath, Chairman & Managing Director of OIL.
Under the newly formed Joint Venture Company (JVC), the partners will set up Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations and provide Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to households, businesses, and industries across the state. The project aims to expand access to clean energy, drive sustainable development, and support the government’s vision of creating a gas-based economy.
Highlighting BPCL’s commitment, Shri Sanjay Khanna, CMD of BPCL, stated that the partnership will help strengthen clean energy infrastructure in the North-East, enabling households, industries, and the transport sector to benefit from reliable gas supply.
Dr. Ranjit Rath, CMD of OIL emphasized that the initiative builds on OIL’s long-standing presence in Arunachal Pradesh, citing the successful commissioning of the Kumchai-Kusijan gas pipeline last year as a foundation for expanding gas distribution in the region.
The CGD project was awarded to the BPCL-OIL consortium during the 12th City Gas Distribution Bid Round conducted by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). The new JVC is expected to play a pivotal role in delivering cleaner energy solutions and fostering socio-economic growth in Arunachal Pradesh.
