Apollo Micro Systems Limited (AMS) has announced that it has obtained approvals from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for two Transfers of Technology in the Directed Energy Weapon (DEW) segment. The approvals relate to advanced defence systems developed by DRDO laboratories and expand the company’s involvement in specialised defence technologies.
Details of the Approved Transfers
The first Transfer of Technology pertains to a Multi-Channel 10 kW Laser Directed Energy Weapon System developed by the Centre for High Energy Systems and Sciences (CHESS), Hyderabad. This transfer will be implemented subject to the signing of a licensed transfer agreement and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
The second approval covers an Electro-Optical Tracking System equipped with EO sensors for DEW applications. This technology has been developed by the Instruments Research and Development Establishment (IRDE), Dehradun.
Directed Energy Weapon Systems
Directed Energy Weapon systems operate by using high-power laser energy to neutralise targets through concentrated energy delivery instead of physical projectiles. These systems are designed for precision engagement and are capable of addressing threats such as unmanned aerial vehicles, missiles, and small moving platforms across varied operational environments.
Company Statement
Karunakar Reddy, Managing Director of Apollo Micro Systems, stated that the approvals represent a milestone in the company’s work within the Directed Energy Weapons domain. He noted that the technologies will support the company’s efforts to develop indigenous, high-technology defence solutions.
He also stated that Apollo Micro Systems is currently engaged in the development of Anti-Drone Systems under the ‘Make’ category for the Indian Armed Forces, covering both soft-kill and hard-kill solutions. According to the company, the newly acquired DEW technologies will complement its ongoing programmes amid evolving aerial threat scenarios.
Summary
Apollo Micro Systems Limited has received DRDO approvals for two Transfers of Technology in the Directed Energy Weapon domain, including a 10 kW laser DEW system and an electro-optical tracking system. The approvals enable the company to design, manufacture, and support key subsystems for indigenous DEW platforms.
