The Andhra Pradesh government has approved renewable energy projects worth ₹43,358 crore, adding more than 2,600 megawatts (MW) of clean power capacity. The approvals were granted by the State Investment Promotion Committee (SIPC) last week, highlighting the state’s aggressive push towards sustainable energy under its Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy.

Key Approvals and Companies

  • 11 companies have received clearances, including:
    • Hexa Energy – 100 MW hybrid solar-wind project (₹1,200 crore)
    • Serentica Renewables – 550 MW wind projects in Ananthapur & Kurnool (₹2,400 crore)
    • Brightfuture Power – 350 MW wind unit in Ananthapur (₹3,286 crore)
    • Clean Renewable Energy – solar project in Nandyal (₹1,000 crore)
    • Refex Solar – 100 MW solar project in Sri Sathya Sai (₹480 crore)
  • Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has also applied to set up 1,200 MWh of battery storage in Nandyal.

Pumped Storage Projects

A major share of investments comes from pumped storage expansion:

  • Navayuga Engineering – expanding Gujjili project (Alluri Sitharama Raju district) from 1,500 MW to 2,400 MW at ₹15,455 crore
  • Chinta Green Energy – scaling up YSR Kadapa project from 350 MW to 2,400 MW at ₹15,050 crore

Solar & Wind Expansion

The approvals also cover large wind and solar additions, strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s position as one of India’s top renewable energy hubs.

Policy & Future Outlook

Since June 2024, Andhra Pradesh has attracted renewable energy commitments worth ₹2.2 trillion under its ICE Policy. The policy targets 160 GW of renewable capacity with potential investments of up to ₹10 trillion, positioning the state as a key driver in India’s clean energy transition.

Summary

The Andhra Pradesh government has cleared ₹43,358 crore of renewable energy projects, totaling 2,600 MW capacity. The approvals span pumped storage, solar, wind, and hybrid projects by leading companies such as Navayuga Engineering, Serentica Renewables, Brightfuture Power, Hexa Energy, and Refex Solar. With SECI’s battery storage plans and large pumped storage expansions, the state is rapidly advancing towards its ICE Policy target of 160 GW renewable energy, cementing its role as a renewable energy leader in India.
