ABB India Ltd. has expanded its manufacturing capabilities by adding a new production line for variable speed drives (VSDs) at its Peenya factory in Bengaluru, according to recent exchange filings. The company stated that the addition will increase local production capacity by around 25%.
Expansion Details
The Peenya facility, which has been manufacturing drives for over two decades, will now produce drives with higher power ratings and develop customised units for industries such as buildings, data centres, water management, cement, and metals. ABB India noted that the expansion is expected to reduce delivery time by up to 40%.
Use of Robotics
The upgraded facility integrates robotic systems to automate the production of key drive components. These systems are designed to enhance precision, consistency, and efficiency while supporting high-volume manufacturing. The company said automation will help maintain quality standards during scaled-up operations.
Local Manufacturing Focus
ABB India’s latest investment aligns with its goal of strengthening local manufacturing and reducing reliance on imports. The Peenya plant remains a key hub for supplying industrial drives across India, supporting domestic demand and contributing to faster market deliveries.
Industrial Demand
Variable speed drives are widely used across sectors to control motor speed, improve energy efficiency, and optimise process performance. With growing emphasis on energy conservation and cost reduction, ABB India’s new production line is expected to meet the rising industrial demand for energy-efficient solutions.
