Jindal Steel and Power Limited has completed a significant capacity expansion at its Angul Integrated Steel Complex in Odisha, increasing the plant’s crude steel production capacity to 12 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
The milestone was achieved with the commissioning of the third Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF-3), which has an installed capacity of 3 MTPA, marking the completion of the company’s 6 MTPA expansion project at the facility.
Integrated Expansion and Infrastructure Development
As part of the expansion, the company has operationalised both BOF-2 and BOF-3, along with key upstream and downstream infrastructure. These include coke ovens, a cold rolling mill (CRM) complex, and other critical support facilities essential for streamlined steel production.
The integrated setup is expected to ensure operational efficiency and facilitate a smooth ramp-up of the enhanced capacity. The project has been executed within the planned timeline, reflecting strong project management and execution capabilities.
Boost to Overall Production Capacity
With the expansion at Angul, Jindal Steel’s total crude steel capacity has increased to 15.6 MTPA. This includes 12 MTPA at the Angul complex and an additional 3.6 MTPA at its Raigarh facility.
The increased capacity is expected to support higher production volumes, improve capacity utilisation, and strengthen the company’s revenue growth prospects.
