Apollo Micro Systems Limited (AMS) has announced that it has obtained approvals from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for two Transfers of Technology related to Directed Energy Weapon (DEW) systems. The approvals represent a development in the company’s participation in advanced defence electronics and systems.

Details of Approved Technology Transfers

The first Transfer of Technology involves a Multi-Channel 10 kW Laser Directed Energy Weapon System developed by DRDO’s Centre for High Energy Systems and Sciences (CHESS), Hyderabad. This transfer will be subject to the execution of a Licensed Agreement for Transfer of Technology and compliance with applicable regulatory and procedural requirements.

The second approved transfer relates to an Electro-Optical Tracking System equipped with EO sensors for Directed Energy Weapon applications. This technology has been developed by DRDO’s Instruments Research and Development Establishment (IRDE), Dehradun.

Directed Energy Weapon Systems

Directed Energy Weapon systems employ high-power laser energy to neutralise targets through concentrated energy delivery rather than kinetic impact. These systems are designed to address threats such as unmanned aerial vehicles, missiles, and small mobile platforms, offering precision targeting and rapid engagement capabilities.

Company Statement

Commenting on the approvals, Karunakar Reddy, Managing Director of Apollo Micro Systems, stated that the two technology transfers represent a milestone for the company in the Directed Energy Weapons segment. He noted that the technologies will enhance the company’s capabilities in delivering indigenous defence solutions aligned with national priorities.

He further stated that Apollo Micro Systems is engaged in the development of Anti-Drone Systems under the ‘Make’ category for the Indian Armed Forces, including both soft-kill and hard-kill solutions. According to him, the Directed Energy Weapon technologies obtained through the transfers will complement the company’s ongoing development programmes amid evolving aerial threat scenarios.

Summary

Apollo Micro Systems Limited has received DRDO approvals for two Transfers of Technology in the Directed Energy Weapon domain, covering a 10 kW laser DEW system and an electro-optical tracking system. The approvals will enable the company to advance its capabilities in the design and manufacture of indigenous defence technologies.
