Digital Connexion—the joint venture between Reliance Industries, Brookfield, and US-based Digital Realty—has announced an ambitious expansion plan, committing ₹98,000 crore to establish next-generation AI-focused data centres in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The investment marks one of India’s largest digital infrastructure pledges and aims to support the accelerating adoption of artificial intelligence across industries.
1 GW Data Centre Capacity Planned by 2030
The venture plans to build a 1-gigawatt (GW) data centre cluster by 2030, with the project spread across a 400-acre land parcel in Visakhapatnam. Designed to support high-density workloads, the upcoming facilities will be optimized for AI compute environments, including generative AI training, machine learning, and GPU-intensive applications.
With an investment commitment valued at nearly $11 billion, the project aligns with India’s push toward building world-class digital infrastructure capable of serving hyperscalers, cloud providers, and enterprise clients.
Government Partnership to Enable Seamless Execution
To support the rollout, Digital Connexion has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board. The agreement outlines collaboration on regulatory facilitation, land support, and infrastructure coordination to ensure timely development and operational readiness of the data centre parks.
High-Performance, AI-Ready Infrastructure
The proposed data centre ecosystem will feature advanced electrical and cooling systems, resilient grid connectivity, and power redundancies aimed at ensuring high uptime and efficient energy usage. Rack configurations will be designed to support exceptionally high compute densities required for modern AI workloads—significantly above traditional enterprise data environments.
Existing Presence and Expansion Strategy
Digital Connexion already operates a carrier-neutral data centre campus in Chennai and is developing another large facility in Mumbai’s Chandivali district. Both locations serve as important network hubs supporting low-latency cloud access and enterprise hosting.
The Visakhapatnam project is positioned as the JV’s largest and most technologically advanced development so far, reinforcing India’s growing relevance in the global cloud and AI computing ecosystem.
Summary
Digital Connexion’s ₹98,000 crore investment positions Andhra Pradesh as a major hub for AI computing and high-density data centre infrastructure. With a target capacity of 1 GW and government-backed development support, the initiative is set to accelerate India’s digital transformation, strengthen cloud and AI scalability, and attract large-scale enterprise and hyperscaler workloads to the region.
