Federal Card Services (FCS), a US-based card manufacturing company, has announced plans to enter the Indian market with an investment of $250 million. The company will establish its first Asian production facility in Pune, Maharashtra, marking a significant milestone in its global expansion.

Facility and Operations

The upcoming Pune facility spans 32,000 sq ft, with the first phase of construction already completed. Equipment installation and employee training are currently underway, and commercial production is expected to begin in February 2026.

The plant will initially manufacture around 2 million cards annually, with capacity expansion planned to 26.7 million cards per year. The facility will produce metal and biodegradable payment cards, including eco-friendly variants made from renewable materials such as certified wood, coffee fibre, and plant-based composites.

The project is expected to create approximately 1,000 direct jobs across manufacturing, technology, and support functions. The total investment includes spending on manufacturing infrastructure and regional support operations.

Strategic Location and Global Connectivity

FCS said Pune was chosen for its strong talent base and connectivity to Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. The plant will also serve as a base for exports to international markets.

FCS currently partners with Axis Bank, VISA, Mastercard, and FPL Technologies (OneCard). Headquartered in Miami, USA, the company operates an R&D centre in Ireland and a manufacturing unit in Ohio. FCS is ranked as the second-largest company globally in the premium card manufacturing segment by installed capacity and patent portfolio.
