Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced a partnership with SINTEF, one of Europe’s largest independent research foundations, to develop AI-driven solutions aimed at improving elderly care and supporting independent living for senior citizens.
Enhancing the SMILE Platform
The collaboration will focus on advancing SINTEF’s Smart Inclusive Living Environments (SMILE) eHealth platform, which helps older adults manage daily activities within their homes. With TCS’s expertise in Artificial Intelligence and digital innovation, the upgraded platform will offer more intelligent and personalized assistance.
Key Features of SMILE
- Communication Tools: Facilitate connection with family, caregivers, and peers.
- Support Systems: Provide reminders for medications, appointments, and access to health services.
- Social Engagement: Encourage participation in community and wellness activities.
Use of Social AI
A central component of the initiative is Social AI, designed to understand human behavior and emotions. This capability enables the platform to adapt to an individual’s habits and preferences, allowing for customized care plans and improved quality of life.

Beyond elderly care, TCS and SINTEF plan to extend their collaboration into areas such as energy solutions, mobility innovations, and smart community development, reflecting their shared goal of creating sustainable and inclusive societies.
