
Mumbai, September 2025: Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a leading Indian infrastructure and engineering firm, has been awarded a significant contract in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project, commonly known as India’s bullet train initiative.
Scope of the Contract
L&T’s Transportation Infrastructure division will handle the design, supply, construction, testing, and commissioning of 156 km of high-speed ballastless track. The stretch runs from Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex to Zaroli village in Gujarat and includes:
- 21 km of underground track
- 135 km on elevated viaducts
Advanced Technology Integration
The project will employ Japanese Shinkansen J Slab Track Technology, designed to:
- Support train speeds of up to 320 km/h
- Provide a smooth ride experience
- Offer longer lifespan and easier maintenance
L&T’s Role in MAHSR
With this contract, L&T now oversees more than 50% of the track work for the bullet train. Previously, in April 2022, the company had secured Package T3, covering a 116 km stretch from south of Vadodara to Sabarmati depot.
