NIFTY:
Nifty opened at 16481.60 with a big gap down of 177 points. Prices moved further on the downside and recorded its intraday low at 16356.30. Prices finds support there and started moving on the upside. A minor dip came in the afternoon but prices soon find support and resumed its up move. The index recorded its intraday high at 16815.90 and finally closed at 16793.90 near its intraday high wit h a ga in of 135.50 points or 0.81% up despite a big gap down. METAL outperformed today and ended with a ga in of 4.95% followed by OIL GAS which ended wit h a ga in of more than 2.5%. BANK, FINANCIAL, and AUTO underperformed today and ended with a loss of more than half a percent.
Volatility is very high as the volatility index ‘INDIA VIX’ is moving above 28. lt will be normal when the index moves below 18. Moreover , intraday range is also very wide that indicating a few narrow and choppy days are ahead. Support is visible around first at 16200, if breach then 15500. Strong resistance is visible inside the 16800 – 16900 range and the index today closes almost there. As we have mentioned, “We are in an environment of fear& uncertainty. In such an environment we should step aside and not indulge ourselves in any kind of trading.
BANK NIFTY:
BANK NIFTY opened at 35938.95 wit h a big gap down of 547 points. The index moved further on the downside and recorded its intraday low at 35611.90. Prices then moved up and recorded its intraday high at 36270.25. The index again moved down but soon found support and again moved up Prices finally closed at 36211.55 wit ha loss of 274 points. PSU BANKS have outperformed today and closed wit h a gai n of 0.13% while PVT BANKS have underperformed today and closed wit h a loss of 0.54%. Within the index, in terms of points, ICICI BANK contributed the highest on the while HDFC BANK contributed the lowest. The trend is still on the downside and it will be down as far as prices are trading below the immediate resistance level around 36800. Support is visible around 34000.

NEWS UPDATES
- Indian Tata Motors on Tuesday said its total domestic sales increased by 27 per cent year-on-year to 73,875 units in February. The company had dispatched 58,366 units in February 2021. The auto major said its passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market last month rose by 47 per cent to 39,981 units compared to 27,225 units in the same month last year.
- Ilker Ayci has declined the Tata Group’s offer to be the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of Air India, aviation industry sources said on Tuesday. On February 14, Tata Sons had announced the appointment of Ayci, former chairman of Turkish Airlines, as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India.
- Tata Steel is looking to set up a ‘world class’ facility to produce medical material and as a step towards it, Tata Steel Advanced Materials (TSAML), an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary, has invested in a bio-ceramics startup, Ceramat Private Limited.
- GST collections in February stood at over Rs 1.33 trillion in February, an 18 per cent growth over the year-ago period, the Finance Ministry said on Tuesday. The February mop-up was impacted by the Omicron wave that swept through the country and hence, the gross sales tax collection was lower than the record Rs 1,40,986 crore netted in January.
- India’s top refiner Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will no longer accept cargoes of Russian crude oil and Kazakh CPC Blend on a free-on-board (FOB) basis due to insurance risk, according to a tender notice and a source familiar with the matter.
