The NIFTY opened at 17682.90 with a gap down of 76 points. The index started drifting downwards from its opening tick after recording its intraday high at 17690.05. Prices have seen a sharp intraday decline, reached 17550 within a few hours, and then started a process of consolidation which eventually broke onto the downside. The index again moved down and recorded its intraday low at 17467.35. Prices have finally closed at 17490.70 near their daily lows with a loss of 267.75 points or 1.51% down. All the sectoral indices have closed lower today led by METAL and REALITY which ended down by 2.98% & 2.51% respectively. BANK, FINANCIAL, and IT also moved down and closed lower with a loss of nearly 2%. The short-term trend is now sideways and the index has broken and dosed below its support levels around 17700. Resistance is visible around the 18000 mark. We have been anticipating a dip and that dip is going on. Holding its support level will give us a buying opportunity. Tomorrow, we should look to buy on a dip at or below 17380. Keep a stop of 80 points and a target of 240 points from your entry price. A close below 17400 support may change the short-term trend to down. We will then plan for a shorting opportunity.

The BANK NIFTY opened at 38693.65 with a gap of 207 points. The index started drifting downwards after recording its intraday high at 38732.85 and reached 38300 in a few hours. Prices then saw a minor correction which fizzled out quickly and the index resumed its down move to record its intraday low at 38247.25. The index finally dosed at 38331.20 near its day low with a loss of 569 points. PSU and PVT BANKS both indices have seen a decline today and closed lower by 2.12% & 1.71% respectively. Within the index, in terms of points, ICICI BANK contributed the highest on the downside followed by HDFC BANK. It was again a trend day today in the Bank Index on the downside where prices have recorded their intraday high near the opening tick and intraday low near the closing tick. Prices have seen a sharp decline in the first half while moving sideways and choppy in the second half. Holding 38000 support will give us a buying opportunity. Tomorrow, we should look to buy at or below 38000 with a stop of 300 points and a target of 800 points from your entry level.
