The Nifty opened at 17420.35 with a gap up of 65 points. Prices first moved up but the rally fizzled out quickly and the index fell down after recording its intraday high at 17438.55. The index continues moving downwards for the rest of the day, recorded its intraday low at 17367.05 and finally closed at 17380 with a gain of 24.70 points. The Media sector outshines and ended with a gain of 14.40% due to a 40% gain in Zeel. The Metal, FMCG and Financial have underperformed and ended with a loss.
The Nifty continued trading narrow and ended with a marginal gain just below 17400 levels. The short term trend is still up. Prices have been very choppy and traded in a range of just 71 points.
The index recorded a pattern of NR7 (narrowest trading range in the last 7 trading days). This suggests that a breakout is imminent from the 17250-17450 range one way or another. Look to buy above 17450 or on a dip to 17250.
Bank Nifty opened at 36639.95 with a gap up of 142 points. The index first moved up and recorded its intraday high at 36756. Prices then started moving downwards and kept that momentum for the rest of the day. The index recorded its intraday low at 36529.65 and closed with a slight gain. Private Banks have outperformed and ended with a gain of more than 1%. PSU Banks have also seen a rally but closed with a gain of 0.18%. Within the index, Indusind Bank contributed highest while HDFC Bank the lowest.
It was a choppy day where prices moved narrow and continued to stay within the range of 36200-37000.

|•The Madras High Court, in its written order in the bumper-to-bumper insurance cover matter, has said it would not have been economically and logistically feasible to implement its previous order mandating such an insurance cover for all new vehicles sold from September 1 onwards. Thereby, it has withdrawn its previous order and has entrusted the lawmakers to examine the need for suitable amendment in the law on wide coverage of vehicles so as to protect victims.
•Tata Motors on Tuesday said it has inked a pact with Tata Power to install and operate a 3 MWp rooftop solar project at its passenger vehicle business unit (PVBU) plant in Pune. The automaker said it has signed a solar power purchase agreement with Tata Power. The solar rooftop project is expected to generate nearly 45 lakh KWh per year, reducing carbon emissions by around 3,538 tonnes per year, it added.
•The Union Cabinet is likely to approve on Wednesday the revised production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the automobile sector, which aims at promoting domestic manufacturing and create jobs, according to sources. The government is believed to have slashed the outlay for this PLI scheme to about ₹26,000 crore, they said. Last year, the government had announced the scheme for the automobile and auto components sector with an outlay of ₹57,043 crore, earmarked for five years “The Cabinet may take up the proposal in the meeting tomorrow (on Wednesday),” one of the sources said.
•ISGEC Heavy Engineering received an order for 25 Medical Oxygen Plants from the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India.
