Outlook

NIFTY:

Nifty  opened at 15867.95 wit ha big gap down of 378 points. Initial prices moved down and then up to record its intraday high at 15944.60. The rally fizzled out quickly and prices have again moved down. The decline was very sharp and the index recorded its intraday low at 15711.45 and then found support there. Prices have seen some recovery in the last hour of trading and the index finally closed at 15863.15 wit h a loss of 382.20 points or 2.35% down. All the sectoral indices have seen a down move today except the METAL that ended with a gain of more than 2%. REALTY,BANK, and FINANCE have led the bears today and ended wit h a loss of more than 3%.

We are in an environment of fear, the chances of a low volatile environment are less at least for this week. The Russia-Ukraine issue is lasting for the last twelve days and we are not getting any sign of this issue to resolve. Strong support around 16200 broke decisively and we now have the next support around 15500. Strong resistance is visible inside the 16800 – 16900 range. A minor resistance should emerge around 16200. We should step aside and not indulge ourselves in any kind of trading. We should wait fora process of consolidation and then a trading range.

BANK NIFTY:

BANK NIFTY opened at 33278.15 wit h a big ga p down of 1098 points. The index first moved down and then saw a sharp rally that recorded its intraday high at 33543.30. Prices finds strong resistance there and then again moved down to record its intraday low at 32376.50. The index final closed at 32914.55 wit ha loss of 1462 points. PVT and PSU BANKS have performed almost same today, saw a sharp intraday decline and ended with a loss of more than 4%. Within the index, in terms of points, ICICI BANK contributed the highest on the downside followed by HDFC BANK.

The short-term trend is down as the index is making lower high lower lows pattern. We should avoid trading the index and wait markets to stabilize first. Resistance should now emerge around 34000 while support may emerge around 32000.

NEWS UPDATES

  • On Thursday, while addressing a post-Budget webinar, Union Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal urged the industries to increase India’s share in global trade to 10 per cent and increase the export to GDP ratio to 25 per cent. The target may seem achievable given the stellar growth the economy has witnessed post-Covid and the 33 per cent rise expected in exports compared to last year. India is expected to have an export-to-GDP ratio of 20.8% this year; in 2013-14, India’s export-to-GDP ratio was 25.4%.
  • Navi Technologies is planning to raise Rs 4,000 crore in fresh capital through an initial public offering (IPO). The company is expected to file its draft red herring prospectus with market regulator Sebi this week, said people in the know. ICICI Securities, BofA and Axis Capital are the investment banks handling the share sale.
  • Mining behemoth Coal India will not have luxury to retain its loss-making mines with its aim to remain competitive in the wake of privatisation of coal blocks, a senior government official said on Monday. It is also expected that India will have a surplus of coal for thermal power plants by next year even though electricity demand grows by six per cent, he said.
  • Bharti Airtel and Axis Bank on Monday announced the launch of Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card as part of a “strategic partnership to strengthen the growth of India’s digital ecosystem through a range of financial solutions”. In a bid to accelerate adoption of digital payments in the country, over the coming months, Airtel and Axis Bank will bring to market a range of innovative financial offerings and digital services exclusively for Airtel’s 340 million plus customers.
